US Clubs Bring Cheers to Laguna Kids


Kiwanis Clubs from Div 3 of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District with the cooperation of the Kiwanis Clubs of Div. IV-A(Laguna) provided more than 1,200 kids in flood stricken areas with Christmas gifts and food last December 29 and 30, 2009.

Christmas Parties and gift giving projects financed largely by Div 3's Laguna Aid fund was organized in six locations by Laguna Kiwanis clubs in coordination with KC Buklod San Pablo. The Laguna Aid Fund was intiated by Lino Caringal and Ante Trinidad of the Kiwanis Club of Fil-Am Glendale upon the request of Buklod San Pablo Kiwanian PLG Ike Prudente to support supplementary feeding projects in severely flooded areas in Laguna after typhoons Ondoy and Santi.

Kwns Lino and Ante, with the spirited support of  Lt. Gov. Heinrich Keifer, made the rounds of the clubs in Div. 3 and made impassioned appeals to help the young children of Laguna. Pres. Delilah Dijamco of KC Fil-Am Glendale, Pres. Cathy Keen of KC Glendale, Pres. Nick Berkuta of  KC La Canada and Pres. Peggy Keifer of KC Greater Park lead their respective clubs in raising a total $3,650 to date.

Last Dec 29, KC Laguna Gems and KC Chrysanthemum treated more than 400 kids and their families to a Christmas "merienda" in two evacuation centers in San Pedro, Laguna. KC Laguna Gems led by Pres. Judith Magdaluyo played host to more than 200 younsters in San Roque Elementary School while Pres. Donny Amerilla's KC Chrysanthemum entertained more than 200 kids and their families in the Filcera Evacuation Center in San Vicente, San Pedro.

Later that day, Pres. Vernie Labro and KC Canlubang members fed and distributed gifts and fortified rice to more than boys and girls in Brgy. Masili, Calamba, Laguna.

On the next day, Dec 30, KC Buklod San Pablo with Pres Wilson Anzurez on the helm celebrated their Christmas by providing  280 tots from Brgy. Pagalangan, Victoria, Laguna with food, school supplies and candies. These children are beneficiaries of an ongoing supplementary feeding program organized on November, 2009 by KC Buklod San Pablo with the support of Div 3 Kiwanians, the Risen Savior Missions, UP Tau Rho Xi Fraternity  and MSC institute of Technology.

Later that day, the KC Buklod San Pablo proceeded to the former San Luis Sports Complex in Santa Cruz, Laguna to join  La Canada Kiwanian Tita San Luis,Atty Domy Anonuevo of the UP Tau Rho Xi Fraternity and the local Couples for Christ chapter headed by Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ching in entertaining about 200 young evacuees.

KC Buklod members then went to the Sts Joachim and Anne Parish in Calumpang, Liliw, Laguna with school supplies and candies for 200 pre schoolers for the Gift Giving project organized by Fr. Rudy Carabuena. Aside from, Div 3 clubs, other donors include Ms Prosy Pugay, Serge Javier ; Geng and Luke Prudente and the Risen Savior Missions.

Other project supported by Laguna  Aid include the Supplementary Feeding Program for undernourished children in flooded Barangays Tadlac, Malinta and Bambang in Los Banos, Laguna which was started early December by the KC Lake City and other feeding projects set to start this January in Pantalan, Muntinlupa; San Benito, Victoria; Sta. Rosa, Bay and Pila, Laguna to be coordinated by the Kiwanis Clubs of Muntinlupa, Buklod San Pablo, Sta. Rosa, Siete Lagos, and San Pablenos respectively.

In addition to the above mentioned officials of Kiwanis of Div 3, Cal-Nev-Hawaii Dist., Laguna Aid prime movers Ante Trinidad and Lino Caringal would also like to acknowledge the invaluable assistance of the following for the success of Laguna Aid: Geng Prudente and the UP Tau Rho Xi Alumni of Los Angeles; Pisay_Dos; Emelita SL Bituin, KC La Canada; Adel Luzuriaga, KC FilAm; Vic Legerton, KC Glendale; Bob Wallace, KC La Canada; and Pat Lidell, KC Greater Highland Park.
